Dr. R. Scott Akins
Dr. Akins is a board-certified Radiation Oncologist dedicated to proactive, patient-centred care with a focus on empathy and comfort. He completed his residency at the University of Miami and earned his medical degree from Texas Tech University. A U.S. Air Force veteran with over a decade of service, he held leadership roles including Assistant Chief of Radiation Oncology at SAMMC, where he streamlined care coordination across multiple military sites.
He most recently served as Medical Director at Texas Oncology–Midland, where he modernized cancer treatment practices and expanded access to advanced therapies like IMRT and Stereotactic Radiosurgery.
Now based in San Antonio, he enjoys family life with his wife, Chessa, and their four children. In his free time he loves college sports, water activities and cooking with his family.
Dr. Hejal C. Patel
Dr. Patel earned his Bachelor of Science, Summa Cum Laude, from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed his medical degree at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, where he continues to serve on the Board of Admissions. He completed his residency in Radiation Oncology at the University of Louisville, where he served as Administrative Chief Resident.
A cancer survivor himself, Dr. Patel brings a unique perspective and deep compassion to his work. He is committed to providing highly personalized patient care and specializes in advanced treatment techniques.

Coordination of Care
Our physicians work closely with each patient's primary care physician and other specialists to create a comprehensive care plan. Our strong relationships with referring physicians mean you have a coordinated team of doctors working together to give you the best care.
What to expect.
Consultation
Your physician meets with you — and any family you'd like present — to review your medical history, discuss your treatment plan and walk through likely outcomes. Bring your questions. There are no bad ones.
Simulation
A planning session maps the exact treatment area using CT imaging. Your team creates the positioning setup that will be reproduced precisely at every session.
Treatment
Before you leave your first appointment we schedule your first treatment. In most cases you'll begin within a few days.
